A thank you to our team

A thank you to the people who keep this work standing

Behind every good placement there is work no one sees. A public thank you to the people who do it, every day.

When a family is looking for the right person for their home, someone has to understand what they actually need. Not just the obvious part — a person who cooks or cares for an elderly parent — but everything else too.

The rhythm of the household, the balance within the family, what it means for a new person to step into their daily life.

That is the work. To listen to both sides, the client and the worker, to understand what each one is really asking for, and to find the match that will last. Not a placement that looks good on paper, but a relationship that works in practice, months and years later.

It sounds simple. It is not.

Most people would walk away from this work within three months. Not because they lack the formal qualifications — if the job were reading CVs and sending people out, it would be easy. They quit because they underestimate what it truly demands, every day, on a human level.

Behind every good placement there is work no one sees, and that work is done by my team.

What this work really means

Every day the team handles uncertainty, expectations, stress and disappointment. Not only their own, but also that of the people who trust AHS on both sides of the relationship. On one side, the client who trusts us with their home and their family. On the other, the worker who trusts us with their job and their future.

And yes, the team members feel it personally. They are genuinely happy when a placement closes well and they know they made a difference for a family and for a person. They are disappointed when a case they handled with care falls apart for reasons that were never in their hands. They get angry, as anyone would, when they run into bad faith, carelessness or disrespect from one side or the other.

They are not machines that produce results. They are people who care — and that is exactly why the work costs them emotionally.

A good day makes you feel it is all worth it. A bad day tests your endurance. And the next day you start again from the beginning.

The front line, day to day

Because the front line means exactly this. Here are just a few of the things the team handles, often within the same day:

  • An appointment that was booked, and the candidate never shows up — no call, no explanation.
  • A candidate who stops responding in the middle of the process, after time and effort have already gone into them.
  • A candidate who says yes and changes their mind at the last moment, often for reasons they never shared with us.
  • A household whose needs turn out to be more complex than they first appeared, and the search has to start almost from scratch.
  • A client who changes what they are asking for after the case has been worked on for weeks.
  • A placement that looked ideal and needs adjusting after the first weeks, because the chemistry between people is not always predictable on paper.
  • A worker who leaves earlier than everyone expected, and a solution has to be found quickly and properly.
  • Misunderstandings born of different language and culture, where someone has to stand in the middle and resolve them calmly.

None of this gets solved by luck. It gets solved with patience, with the right questions from the start so that half of it is prevented, and with people who pick up the phone and take charge of the situation even when the day did not go as they expected.

And the hardest part: you have to start the next case with a clear mind and steady judgement, without letting fatigue affect the quality of your work for the next person who needs you.

What you build after years of this

Anyone who lasts in this work for years develops things most people never learn. Composure under pressure. Clear communication with people who speak different languages and come from different cultures. The ability to keep the person at the centre without losing your professional judgement. The judgement to know when a placement is right and when, however easy it would be, it is not the right one.

That difference is made by people, not by processes.

That is precisely the difference between a simple referral and a relationship of trust that lasts for years.

The thank you

This is why I want to publicly thank my team. For every time you kept your composure when things got hard. For every candidate and every client you felt you had to look after a little more, even when no one would ever know. For the stability you bring to a job that is unstable by its very nature.

Many people underestimate this work until they try to do it themselves. I know what you do, because I see it every day.

Thank you, AHS Team. From the heart.

Frequently asked questions

What does Athens Home Services do?

Athens Home Services connects families with experienced domestic staff — from elderly care and cooking to general household support. The team understands the real needs of each home and each worker, so that the placement works in practice and lasts over time.

How is a good domestic staff placement made?

It starts with careful listening to both sides: what the family really needs and what the worker is looking for. Asking the right questions from the start prevents half of the future difficulties. The goal is a relationship of trust that works months and years later.

Why does the human side matter, and not just the CV?

Formal qualifications are only the beginning. The chemistry between people, the rhythm of the household and trust are not always predictable on paper. That is why behind every successful placement there are people who handle what no one sees with composure and judgement.

What happens if a placement does not work out as expected?

No search is ever fully predictable. When a placement needs adjusting after the first weeks or a worker leaves earlier than expected, the team takes charge quickly and properly, so that a solution is found and balance is restored for everyone.
